Back Across the Ditch!

We have this week an outstanding Sauv. Blanc from what is being hailed as the almost perfect 2013 vintage in New Zealand. Monowai is easily our most popular white and this week we are happy to be able to release it at a very sharp $13 a bottle. With fresh supplies, we also re-release a delicious riesling from the Clare Valley, grown in perhaps the best vintage in that area for a generation – 2012. Finally, joining our 2012 Dromana Mornington peninsula chardonnay at $11 as our “Bargain of the Week” we have another special from the Adelaide Hills, the Hickinbotham 2012 shiraz is a well-made and soft, easy drinking red that is great value at only $10 a bottle.

Monowai Hawkes Bay (NZ) 2013 Sauvignon Blanc

From one of the world's premium areas for this variety, and made by a highly regarded wine making family, this very fresh, young wine from a "nearly perfect" vintage is excellent drinking right now. It is smooth and crisp with lovely fresh fruit and big citrus flavours. At $13 a bottle but with a RRP of $18, this is outstanding value.

Spurs Wine Company 2012 Clare Valley (SA) Riesling

Buy it now for $13 a bottle

2012 in South Australia is now regarded as the best vintage in decades. James Halliday recently stated that “Clare Valley’s riesling will be absolutely outstanding, one of the greatest years in living memory”. Reflecting the excellent year, this wine has beautiful clean, fresh fruit balanced by lemony acid that will soften and age beautifully – however this is wonderful, fresh drinking right now. Good value at $13 a bottle.

Bargain of the Week

Hickinbotham “Kari Bay” Adelaide Hills (SA) 2012 Shiraz

Buy it now for only $10 a bottle!

Professor Hickinbotham was one of the founding fathers of Australian wine and the grandfather of David Hickinbotham, who made this wine. The family still own some of the best vineyards in South Australia, and the grapes they produce are good enough to have supplied fruit for Penfolds Grange. Kari Bay, their export label wine, is certainly not Grange, but it is both affordable and good drinking. Grown in what is now widely called the best vintage in a generation this smooth and uncomplicated young wine is already excellent, easy drinking. With a bit of spice and cherry on the nose, it has good balance, nice ripe fruit and a gently drying finish. A real bargain at only $10, thanks to yet another English export order being cancelled.

If you like, we can tailor the contents to your own preferences (for example, mainly chardonnay, no SSB, young and fruity etc etc) and all of the wines we sell have been tested by us for both quality and value.
