Happy Easter and happy “Garage” sale!

Over the last few years some of most popular wines have been produced or re-labelled by Chris Hill, who operates under the name of Garage Wines. He is an expert wine-maker and blender, and regularly finds quality wines for us at up to 70% off their normal prices. We are not sure if the bargain prices lead to the name or the name lead to the “Garage sale” prices but no matter – they are good drinking and great value! We kept clear of the 2011 reds but the good news is that Chris has started to release his 2012’s, the first of which is the rich and smooth Langhorne Creek shiraz at a “garage sale” price of only $13. We also release this week a delicious and fresh, and almost unoaked, chardonnay from the west, the Peos Estate.

Chris Hill "Pan Terra" 2012 Langhorne Creek Shiraz

54% off RRP of $27.99

This is a smooth and balanced, and very affordable, shiraz from an outstanding vintage and an area renowned for this variety. Made by Chris Hill (proprietor of Garage Wines), this deeply coloured wine shows the classic Langhorne Creek features of big, ripe fruit balanced by gently drying tannins. It is a medium to full bodied wine with nice richness and a touch of warmth and spice – well balanced with big fruit, fine-grained tannins and good fruit-acid, this wine will live for some years but is very good drinking now. At half its RRP it is also a bargain.

Peos Estate Manjimup (WA) "One Tree Bridge" 2011 Chardonnay

33% off RRP of $18.00

The Peos family have owned their farm for over 80 years, and their “One Tree Bridge” label is normally destined for the export market but like so many others it has stayed at home.  This lighter bodied wine is delicious and refreshing drinking with a touch of richness balanced by fresh but gentle acid, thus avoiding the rich, over-oaked flavours of many chardonnays – terrific value at only $12.

Norfolk Rise Mt Benson (SA) 2010 Sauvignon Blanc

With the same ownership as Pipers Brook, this wine is great value and terrific drinking. It is fresh and clean, and highlighted by citrus and gooseberry flavours. With Wine Selectors having the 2012 for sale at $14.45, our price of $10 is a genuine bargain.

Hickinbotham "Kari Bay" Adelaide Hills (SA) 2012 Shiraz

Our recent pallet is probably the last of this young and easy drinking red that was destined for England - from perhaps the greatest vintage year in a generation, this supple, smooth lighter style of wine from a cancelled export order is outstanding value at only $10 a bottle. From the famous Hickinbotham family, this well-made wine is young, so try and give it time to breathe a bit after you open it.
If you would like to order any of these wines simply click onto the buttons underneath each wine or go to our website. Alternatively press “reply” to let us know by return email what you want and we will bring the garage sale to you!

All the best,
David and Hugh
