More Gold from that thar Mr Hill!

Over the last few years we have enjoyed releasing some wonderful older wines from Chris Hill, some under his label, and some he sourced for us, and a lot were at what can only be described as silly prices. The older reds are just about gone, but this week we release his smooth and rich 2012 “Capricornia” McLaren Vale Shiraz – from a superb vintage, this is great value at only $12 a bottle and will drink very nicely over the next few years.

We also release the 2009 Oceans Estate cab-merlot – this is ready to drink and comes from a terrific vintage and perhaps the best area in Australia for this blend, the Margaret River in the west. We also have two Bargains of the Week. The first is the Carolina chardonnay for only $9 – this Victorian wine is fresh and clean, with only a touch of development despite being five years old. Very nice drinking from one of the better cool climate regions - a real bargain at this weeks special price. We are also putting on special again the warm and smooth Doc Adams “Vigilant” 2012 Tempranillo – from a superb vintage in McLaren Vale, and at only $9 a bottle, it is terrific value.

Oceans Estate Margaret River (WA) 2009 Cabernet Merlot

Only $12 a bottle

The cabernet-merlot blend is very successful in the Margaret River, particularly in such a great vintage year as 2009. Produced by the Tomasi family in the Karridale sub region of the Margaret River wine region, this one is round and smooth with nice balance and medium weight. The fine grained tannins have softened with maturity and now provide an excellent structure leading to a long, quite firm but gently drying finish. This is really good drinking and great value at only $12 a bottle.

Capricornia 2012 McLaren Vale Shiraz

Buy it now for $12 a bottle

Good affordable shiraz from a top region and a superb vintage. Made by Chris Hill, it is warm, smooth, and rich in the mouth but not too heavy. It has nice balance, big fruit and excellent soft, ripe fruit flavours with a long, gently drying finish. Excellent, traditional shiraz that is really good value drinking.

Carolina (Central Victoria) 2009 Chardonnay

Bargain of the Week at 58% off - $8 each.

This boutique, cool climate winery has produced a very clean and appealing chardonnay that shows nice aged characters without being too buttery or over-developed. Really good, easy drinking and, at this weeks special price of only $9 a bottle, very affordable.

Doc Adams "Vigilant" 2012 McLaren Vale Tempranillo

Bargain of the Week at 44% off - $9 each.

Doc Adams is a 5 star rated winery located in McLaren Vale, arguably one of the best areas in Australia for growing this Spanish variety. From an outstanding vintage year, this young wine is already drinking very nicely indeed. Very smooth and supple, this red is fuller bodied, showing some nice spice and warmth, and a long, gently dry finish. Recommended if you like bigger, warmer styles of reds and you want a change from shiraz. At this weeks special price of just $9 a bottle it is outstanding value
