Another bargain from Ursula

After establishing her vineyard in 1966, and being the first female winemaker in Australia, it is very sad that Ursula Pridhams creation was finally sold up by the Receivers last year. Nothing to do with Ursula, as she sold it all in 1999 – the collapse is due once again to the current issues and problems in the wine industry. We have managed to pick up some real bargains from the wreckage and this week we release the second of them. It is a smooth and crisp young white from the outstanding 2012 McLaren Vale vintage and at just  $10 a bottle, it is terrific for hot-weather drinking, particularly as it only has 11.5% alcohol.

We also have obtained more stocks of the beautiful 2011 “Bordeaux Blend” from Briarose in the Margaret River and can thus offer it at the new and lower price of only $16 a bottle. Finally, we have two weekly bargains for you, both chardonnays – the nicely rich and smooth Mornington Estate 2010 Chardonnay now only $13 a bottle and the clean and delicious 2009 Basedow Chardonnay now only $8 a bottle for this week, or one third of its RRP.

To ensure you enjoy your wines, we recommend that you let them rest for a week or two once you get them (particularly if they have been delivered to you by Aust Post!). Given this hot weather, also lightly chill the reds after opening. It only takes 20 minutes and makes a huge difference – importantly, it gives you a chance to enjoy one of our white specials, nicely chilled of course!

Marienberg McLaren Vale 2012 "Limeburners Cottage" Sauv. Blanc Semillon

At only $10, that's 44% off RRP of $18.00

From an outstanding “10 out of 10” vintage, this is a clean and crisp young white that is ideal for summer drinking, particularly as it is quite light with only 11.5% alcohol. Showing hints of tropical fruit on the nose, this lighter style of white has fresh, lemony flavours and is smooth and crisp with nice suppleness. At only $10 a bottle, this young wine is both great value and great drinking.

Briarose Estate Margaret River (WA) 2011 "Blackwood Cove" Cabernets

50% off RRP of $32.00

From a top boutique winery in the west, this smooth and supple wine is an excellent example of the "Bordeaux Blend". With a delicious fragrance, and excellent, fine-grained tannins holding it all together, this rich and smooth wine is drinking beautifully despite its youth. At fully half its RRP, or only $16 a bottle, it is outstanding value.

Bargains of the Week

Mornington Estate 2010 Mornington Peninsula (Vic) Chardonnay

48% off RRP of $25.00

Another victim of the turmoil in the wine industry, this very well- known vineyard has produced a beautifully smooth wine showing nice richness beautifully balanced by the citrus and white stone-fruit acid. From an outstanding year, and substantially under its RRP, if you like your chardonnay with a touch more richness, then is the one for you, particularly at this weeks special price of only $13 a bottle.

Basedow Wines Barossa Valley (SA) White Label 2009 Chardonnay

67% off RRP of $24.00

From a very good vintage year this wine is lighter to medium bodied, and is beautifully smooth with nice soft acid overlaid with a touch of richness. This is delicious wine, and even more of a bargain, being reduced for only this week to $8 – thankyou PWC!
