Quick Overview

The very last of this wine from a Heathcote vineyard now sold but that previously contributed grapes to the famous 1997 Ducks Muck. A soft but rich and gently dry wine with delicious freshness from the (white) viognier grape. Excellent and satisfying red, a a great example of an aged Heathcote shiraz. This Heathcote vineyard provided grapes to Wild Duck Creek and the 1997 Ducks Muck which at one stage was selling for $3,500 a bottle after the famous American wine commentator, Robert Parker, rated it at an unheard of 99 points. The proprietor of Duck Creek, David “Duck” Anderson recently bought Mt Pleasant and we managed to pick up a lot of the remaining stock from the winery. It really is worth reading the whole story which is elsewhere on our website under the Mount Pleasant Creek 2009 Cabernet blend. Amongst the winery stock we picked up from the Ipradjian family was the smooth, rich and deliciously fresh 2009 shiraz viognier blend for which we secured the very last stocks. This is a very deeply coloured wine with a rich and developed nose that still shows lovely freshness from the viognier. Not as full bodied as the straight shiraz, it is silky smooth with excellent richness from the fully ripe fruit. The freshness carries through on the palate where the soft, ripe, rich fruit is gently balanced by the very fine tannins that lead to a long, full-flavoured but faintly dry and clean finish. This is an excellent Heathcote red now drinking beautifully. NB : cork closure VERY LIMITED
