Professor Hickinbotham was one of the founding fathers of Australian wine and the grandfather of David Hickinbotham who made this wine. The family still own some of the best vineyards in South Australia, and the grapes they produce are good enough to have supplied fruit for Penfolds Grange. This is one of their export label wines whose order was cancelled by the Californians this time. Grown in what is now widely regarded as the best vintage in a generation, this fresh but nicely supple unwooded chardonnay is a delicious, easy-drinking bargain, particularly at this weeks special price of just $12 a bottle.
