Quick Overview

ALMOST ALL GONE From the same vineyard that contributed grapes to the famous 1997 Ducks Muck, this smooth, supple and beautifully balanced red has a delicious softness underpinned by very gentle, almost soft, fine-grained tannins. This is a terrific, older cabernet that is perfectly ready to drink. It is worth reading the background notes about how Ducks Muck was selling at one stage for $3,500 a bottle - amazing stuff ! ALMOST ALL GONE Mt Pleasant Creek supplied grapes to what is perhaps the most dramatic release ever in the local wine industry, the 1997 red from the nearby Wild Duck Creek. In that year, they picked a row of shiraz about a month late, and it was so different, and so huge and dark, that they marked the barrel “Ducks Muck” as a bit of a poke at the owner, David “Duck” Anderson. Turned out it was exactly the style loved by the worlds most powerful wine critic, Robert Parker, so when he tasted it he awarded it 99 points, which not even Grange had achieved. Soon "Ducks Muck Shiraz" was selling for $3,500 a bottle in the USA and peaked at $1,400 a bottle in Australia. In 1994 , shortly before this sky-rocket took off, Duck helped a friend plant a new vineyard at Heathcote called Mt Pleasant Creek Estate. The grapes were so good that Duck put some in the famous 1997 Ducks Muck. Duck Anderson recently acquired the balance of the shares in this vineyard and is on record of saying “Essentially a dry-land vineyard, it produces stunning fruit” . In 2014 we managed to get a small parcel of shiraz from this vineyard, and it sold out in a few hours. We now release their outstanding cabernet blend. A lovely deep maroon in colour, it has complex aromas of ripe, soft fruit with a hint of cedar and vanilla. At nine years of age, this smooth, aromatic and beautifully balanced red is fresh and clean with a delicious softness underpinned by gentle, almost soft, fine-grained tannins. The tasting notes finish with “wonderful” – enough said ! NB Cork closure
