Quick Overview

A great example of the “Bordeaux blend”, this deeply coloured red has silky smooth balance tied in with lots of fine grained and gently drying tannins. Excellent drinking for those who like a dryer style matched with ripe, soft fruit.

This is a classically deep, rich and nicely dry “Bordeaux blend” made by one of the wine industries major figures. Kuitpo is the private vineyard of Geoff Johnston, the patriarch of the famous McLaren winery of Pirramimma and this is their first release of this blend. From a great vintage, and grown on 25 year old vines, it is now ready for drinking but will live for years. A deep, ruby red, it is nicely aromatic showing ripe fruit laced with fine tannin and sweet oak. This all carries through onto the palate which is quite full bodied, showing good richness, softness and balance, with lots of gently dry tannin. It can be summed up as gently dry and silky smooth. This is very much in the style of a claret (ie Bordeaux) and is excellent drinking if you like that style.
