Quick Overview

From a superb vintage, and from a large wine group who know what they are doing, this is a most enjoyable red – with lovely soft fruit flavours balanced by gently dry tannins it is well balanced, smooth and nicely fresh. This wine is fully ready to drink and is great value. (NB cork closure)

Blaxland Group were one of the very few properly organised and ethical managers who were involved in the debacle of the tax driven MIS projects at the turn of the century. Having survived, they are now one of the biggest private vineyard owners in Australia. However it looks like they got hit with the formerly strong dollar, and thus we have their nicely made 2012 cab-merlot that was destined for overseas. With a clear and bright dark ruby colour, this wine has (from the tasting notes !) a “yummy” aromatic softness and warmth. Medium bodied, it is quite fresh, with the dryness of the cabernet well balanced by the softness of the merlot fruit. Nicely clean and fresh in the mouth, the soft fruit and acid freshness is well balanced by gently dry tannins. This will never win a trophy, but it is a good and very enjoyable wine from a superb vintage, and is ready to drink. Great value. Do chill slightly (ie 15 minutes in the fridge once opened) in hot weather. (NB cork closure)
