Quick Overview

From a famous and prestigious winery that sadly closed in 2015, this rich and gently dry "Bordeaux blend" is excellent drinking but will also keep for years.

Salitage was one of the largest and most prestigious wineries in the cool climate region of Pemberton and in their heyday won multiple trophies. The owners retired in 2013 but were unable to sell on their terms and the vineyard closed in 2015. Yet another sad story from the world of wine making. We picked up a lot of their wine but some needed to be held back to mature, and this lovely cabernet is one of them. Around 50 km SE of Margaret River, the mild climate produces excellent, smooth reds and whites and this “Bordeaux blend” is a beauty. From a top vintage and with a few years resting quietly, this deeply coloured wine is ready to drink. Quite full bodied, it is nicely rich and beautifully balanced with the rich fruit meshed into the fine grained tannins, all freshened up by cool climate acidity. This is a delicious, smooth and gently dry red with a long satisfying finish. Strongly recommended for drinking now but will keep for at least another four years. A bargain at just $32.
