Quick Overview

From the best vintage since 1965, this delicious white shows pure, ripe citrus together with fresh acidity a la Granny Smith apples. Clean and refreshing with a crunchy minerality, this is wonderful drinking and also great value.

From the best vintage since 1965, this is a delicious and refreshing drink. Hunter wines are a bit out of fashion nowadays, but in great vintages like 2014 they really are worth looking at. This Semillon is delicious and fresh now but it will age beautifully if given time to do so. Rated 5 Stars by Halliday (ie the top rating), Eagles Nest was recently described by him as one of the Hunter’s “best kept secrets”. This semillon has lovely citrus flavours with elements of lemongrass and fresh (Granny Smith apple) acidity as well as a lovely (crunchy) minerality. Despite all this freshness it is nicely soft, and has an excellent long, clean finish. Great value at just $16.50, with the vineyard selling it at cellar door for $22.40 while Wine Selectors had its lesser ranked sibling (the 2014 “The Fledgeling” Semillon ) at $18 a bottle. Really worth trying !
