Quick Overview

A very affordable and surprisingly good alternative to French champagne, this is a well balanced and crisp bubbly with fresh fruit flavours and even has a touch of yeast. James Halliday described it as “a very attractive wine and a gift horse at $16 ” so worth trying at just $14 !

Details

Pirramimma, which is aboriginal for “the moon and the stars” was first planted in 1892 by Alexander Johnson and his grandson is now in charge. Located south east of the township of McLaren Vale (about 40 km south of Adelaide) Pirramimma is better known for its reds. However it makes a very acceptable sparkling wine which represents excellent value and which is a very affordable and surprisingly good alternative to French champagne. It is a well balanced and crisp bubbly with fresh fruit flavours and even has a touch of yeast. James Halliday recently described it as “a very attractive wine and a gift horse at $16 ” so it’s a pretty good deal at $14 !
